Billboard Conference Wrap Up: Concert industry is out of the woods
Submitted by: Scott Neal, Assistant General Manager
Yeah, 2011 has been a much slower year, concert-wise than we would all have liked. We have had a great year in terms of family shows and sporting events, but the concerts just haven’t been there. And you know what? We’re not alone. Not by a long shot.
While at the Billboard Conference the common refrain from arena managers around the country has been, “man, this has been a tough year”. The concluding panel from the conference featured some of the top concert promoters, several of whom have been responsible for bringing the biggest shows to INTRUST Bank Arena. The panel was titled, “Are we out of the woods yet?”. Based on what the panel of promoters and agents had to say, we as an industry have rounded the corner. I’m very excited about the events we currently have on sale and also the increased number of concerts we have on hold for all of 2012.
So, if all goes well, we have turned the corner as an industry and 2012 is shaping up to be a much better year than 2011, which did have its share of highlights.
I’m excited about what we have coming down the tracks.
